Position Statement

Technical, educational, and standardization activities are the pillars of our Society, and essential for enabling IEEE ComSoc to maintain its leadership position, and to offer high-quality services that meet the diverse needs of our global community. 

If elected, my commitment will be directed towards the advancement of ComSoc and the benefit of all its members. I pledge to work with enthusiasm and dedication to strengthen ComSoc technical excellence, expand our educational offer, and actively promote the development and adoption of standards in communications.

My main objectives include:

• Recognizing and supporting volunteers by expanding their opportunities to contribute and excel, as their hard work underpins ComSoc’s success.
• Enhancing technical activities by actively supporting Technical Committees, Industry Communities, and Emerging Technology Initiatives to foster disruptive innovations within and beyond ComSoc.
• Improving access to educational services, including webinars, training courses, summer schools, and tutorials, to ensure inclusivity for students, young professionals, and economically disadvantaged members.
• Promoting diversity and inclusion across all activities to guarantee equal participation opportunities, collaborating closely with ComSoc Chapters.
• Strengthening standardization initiatives and industrial engagement, essential for innovation and interoperability, while facilitating members' involvement in these efforts.

My extensive experience and achievements in this area within ComSoc (as Director of Educational Services, Director for Conference Development and Officer or Chair of several Technical Committees) make me an ideal candidate to lead technical, educational, and standardization activities towards a future of success and growth for our entire community.

Biography 

Fabrizio Granelli is Full Professor at the University of Trento (Italy) and visiting professor at the State University of Campinas (Brasil) and the University of Tokyo (Japan). He has 26 years of experience in ComSoc, as Distinguished Lecturer (2012-15 and 2021-24), Director for Online Content (2016-17), Director for Educational Services (2018-19) and Director for Conference Development (2022-23). Prof. Granelli was General or TPC Chair of several prestigious IEEE conferences, including IEEE Globecom, IEEE NFV-SDN, IEEE CAMAD, and chaired several ICC/Globecom symposia. He founded the ComSoc Summer Schools, the Aerial Communication ETI, the IEEE P1954 Standard WG, and IEEE ICMLC (International Conference on Machine Learning for Communications) and IEEE MECOM (Middle East Conference on Communications and Networking). He was Associate EiC of IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials (2017-2022), and currently Senior Editor of IEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking. He is author of 300+ papers on communications and networking topics.
