Position Statement
IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) should play a pivotal role in empowering its members so they can contribute towards the advancement of technology for humanity through invention, innovation, and humanitarian services. IEEE Communications Society should make sure that every member around the world has the opportunity to participate in conferences and workshops in an equitable way. I pledge to utilize my 35 years of industry and academic experience combined with my 25 years in IEEE leadership roles for MGA, TAB, SA, STEM and industry engagement to promote ComSoc’s goals and objectives and make it one of the most effective and well-regarded societies within IEEE.
As VP of conferences, I will work with fellow colleagues and volunteers across the world to develop and implement the following core values:
- Identify key strengths and opportunities for IEEE Communications Society to contribute to the humanity by advancing technology.
- Engage and empower IEEE members at the grass root level so they can effectively contribute towards the advancement of humanity through technology.
- Enhance academic, government, and industry relationships to help drive the society’s membership growth and support the professional growth of its members.
- Encourage professional development initiatives through ComSoc’s education and training programs using webinars and online courses.
- Ensure conference participation is affordable and equitable for all members around the world.
- Promote workshops, seminars, and conferences around emerging technologies.
- Extend ComSoc’s collaboration with IEEE entities such as MGA, EAB, and TAB to deliver excellence through member engagement and enrichment activities.

Biography
Ashutosh brings a unique blend of industry and academic experience that is vital to IEEE Communications Society. He is currently Chief 5G Strategist at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, USA and also serves as Associate Research Professor and Director of Doctor of Engineering program at JHU. His past career spanning more than 30 years, includes AT&T, NIKSUN, Telcordia Research, Columbia University, and TATA Motors. As a Technical Leader in 5G, Ashutosh served as the founding Co-Chair of the IEEE Future Networks, Connecting the Unconnected, and 5G/6G Innovation Testbed. Ashutosh served as Distinguished Lecturer for IEEE Communications Society (2017 - 2020), Director of Industry Outreach Board (2014 - 2019) and serves as Member-At-Large (2020 - 2025). Ashutosh is distinguished alumnus of NIT Rourkela and has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University under the supervision of Prof. Henning Schulzrinne. Ashutosh is a Fellow of IEEE.
