Position Statement
With over 25 years of involvement in ComSoc, I have actively contributed through leadership, research, and editorial roles. My dedication has included serving as editor for top IEEE venues and participating in major ComSoc conferences. As communication technologies face new challenges and opportunities, I am eager to help shape the community's strategic direction and promote ComSoc's growth in underrepresented regions, ensuring every voice is heard.
If elected, I will:
- Strengthen collaboration across ComSoc regions to foster technological innovation and knowledge sharing.
- Promote partnerships between industry and academia to connect research with practical, real-world applications.
- Enhance diversity, inclusion, and research integrity in all ComSoc activities and initiatives.
- Expand initiatives in Africa, supporting research, conferences, and valuable networking opportunities for members.
- Improve publication accessibility and conference affordability for all members, ensuring equitable participation.
I am committed to advancing ComSoc’s global role and ensuring it effectively meets the diverse needs of its members.
Biography
Prof. Ben-Othman received his PhD from the University of Versailles, France, in 1998. He is a Full Professor at the University of Paris-Est Créteil since 2024. His research focuses on wireless ad hoc and sensor networks, VANETs, IoT, performance evaluation, and security in wireless networks. He received several awards, including the IEEE COMSOC Communication Software Recognition Award (2016) and the VEHCOM Fabio Neri Award (2018). He served on steering committee of IEEE TMC, Area and Senior Editor for IEEE Communications Letters and on editorial boards of IEEE Networks, IEEE IoTJ, IEEE TVT and others. He has or will serve as TPC chair for WCNC 27, LATINCOM 23, and MEDITCOM 22. He was a symposium Co-Chair for IEEE Globecom and ICC and chaired the IEEE Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks Technical Committee (2016–2018). He was an IEEE COMSOC Distinguished Lecturer (2015–2018) and an IEEE VTS Distinguished Lecturer (2019–2023).
